Our laying hens are allowed free range of the farm. They munch on fresh greens from the pastures and scratch happily in the dirt in search of tender morsels in the form of insects. We also give them a high-quality feed designed just for layers. They produce wonderful eggs with rich, golden yolks that make supermarket eggs seem dull and lifeless in comparison.
In fact, compared with eggs from caged birds, pastured poultry eggs have 10% less fat, 40% more Vitamin A, 400% more omega-3 fatty acids, and 34% less cholesterol. It's the grass they eat that makes the difference. Supermarket eggs -- even those labeled "organic" -- do not come from chickens that have been able to eat grass, let alone allowed to see the light of day.
Eggs are $3.50 a dozen. Call or email for details.
Our meat birds are raised in movable pens and are moved often to fresh pasture. This ensures that they are never allowed to wallow in manure and always have fresh grass and bugs to eat. Chickens raised this way -- with plenty of fresh air, sunshine and clean spring water -- have a rich, delicious taste. Their meat is naturally low in "bad" cholesterol and saturated fats, while being high in "good" cholesterol and beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids.
Whole, frozen chickens are available year round for $3.50 a pound, with a wide range of sizes usually available. Talk about a food bargain! Call or email for details.
