Meet some of the meat goats

I love to take photos of the herd, but it's not always easy to get them to pose properly for the camera.  Here they are, apparently waiting expectantly for something.  During the summer months, they are rotated through different pastures with the help of movable electrified netting and lots of children as shepherds.  Moving them frequently assures that they always have fresh forage and browse and keeps parasites to a minimum.  The added benefit is that the pastures are improved every year by not being eaten down too often and allowed to rest.

Goat meat has many nutritional benefits.  A 3-ounce serving of roasted goat has about the same calories as an equivalent portion of chicken, but almost a gram less fat.  It has the same amount of protein as beef with about 10% more iron.  Goat meat is naturally low-fat and easily digestible, with a mild flavor similar to veal.

Did you know that goat meat is eaten by the vast majority of the world's population and has been since just about the dawn of time?  Over 70% of the world's population eats goat meat, and approximately 63% of red meat consumed worldwide is goat.  Goats raised primarily on grass produce meat that has superior nutritional benefits to standard supermarket beef, which comes from cattle raised entirely on grain and in crowded confinement lots.  Buying local from a farmer you trust is an important way to keep your family healthy and support your local economy.  Call or email us for more details.  Improve your health; eat more goat!
