Big Pink Farm

Merry Christmas! 12/25/2008

All of us are full of the Christmas spirit here at Big Pink Farm.  The Lord has blessed us with so many good gifts that our hearts are overflowing with gratitude.  I hope you know what that feels like.

It's been cold and windy here.  I know Winter is one of the Four Seasons (and as a farmer I am thankful for all of them), but I must confess that winter is not my favorite season.  But in some respects winter is easy.  The gardens have been put to bed and all the produce has been preserved.  The livestock are in their winter quarters - no more moving them around to fresh paddocks - and parasites are mostly dormant.  All we have to do is maintain the herd (or flock) and plan for spring.  Now is the time to bookmark the pages of seed catalogs and daydream about the future.

So in that spirit - looking forward to the new year with gratefulness for the old - here are my wishes for you:

May your garden be well watered.

May your workers be tireless.

May you keep the weeds at bay.

May you have eyes for the hidden treasure in your fields.

Hey Alison! Remember me from OHM? I found you again through Steph over at her Crock Pot site. I've thought about you often over the last couple of years and am glad to see that you and your family are doing so well. What an awesome farm! Makes me want to grab some goats and chickens and move on out to the farm. (We're in Central IN now).

Your kids (children.. haha) are getting sso big!

Wishing you well! ox Cookie

Cookie, I think we should do it! Let's finally start the commune we always wanted surrounding Big Pink.
:-)
we could totally do it.

Hi Cookie! Of course I remember you! You guys should come visit us. Seriously, it sounds like you live closer to Big Pink than you were before.

And Steph, definitely, we could so work on that commune here! Wouldn't that be fun? Land taxes are relatively cheap compared to what you're used to, I'd wager. :D

I just popped over after reading the Crockpot Lady's recent recipe (from you). I have just skimmed your blog so far, but I can already tell you that:

1. I wish I was more like you
2. The girl with the salad picture almost made me teary. She just looks to happy and proud. As a mother of two girls, that's the look of total success I like to see in my girls' faces. I'll be happy to learn more about the Big Pink Farm.

Aww, Sharon, that's so sweet of you to say, but I can assure you, you don't want to be more like me. I'm short-tempered and opinionated and generally lacking in patience. Just ask my husband. But I'm so glad you stopped by! I'm going to check out your blog tonight when the (human) kids and the (goat) kids don't need me nearly as much as they do when they're awake.

The girl with the salad loves to help in general and in the kitchen in particular. She's a real blessing!

(I'm not a very prolific blogger. Despite my best intentions, I have only managed to post about once a month for the last year. But I hope to remedy that this year. Maybe I'll go crazy and post TWO times a month! Whoa, just whoa.)
